Original films featuring the subtly remade world of the 50’s sci-fi & horror movies
If you'd rather take your frights with a double dose of laughter then TBAE has a special treat for you all October. Eight films from the "Mihmiverse," a series of award winning, loosely interlinked feature-length films styled after 1950s-era "drive-in cinema" created by Christopher R. Mihm.
Christopher R. Mihm loved the long afternoons with his father, bonding while watching his father’s favorite movies, treasured classic B-grade science fiction and horror flicks that brought back his father’s own childhood, warmed by the “scary” movies during the cold Minnesota winters. After his father died, watching films was just not the same. Slowly an idea began to overtake him, “What if I made those type of movies?”
From that yearning arose his first feature film, The Monster of Phantom Lake, a hillarious and loving tribute to 50’s sci-fi films, which was shown here in Tampa Bay at the 2009 Independents’ Film Festival (IFF). House of Ghosts was the headliner for the 2012 IFF.
Now, see all his films in their alternative universe glory. The archness, humor and cinematic style of these films will bring back your childhood memories and help you to appreciate the wacky innocence of the 50s when the worst things we could imagine were ghosts in the house and monsters in the lake.
The series will air every Saturday Night at 8 pm in October 2014, with a special run on Halloween, on TBAE Channel - Bright House 614 & Verizon 32.
