Florida in the Space Age - Coming to TBAE in February!  Mondays at 8:00 PM.

TAMPA, FL (January 27th, 2016) - In 1991 President John F. Kennedy declared the United States would land a man on the moon and return him safely to Earth before the end of the decade. To achieve this ambitious goal, astronauts would need not only a spacecraft that would launch them safely into space, but a spacesuit that would protect them as well. Without the proper clothing to keep them alive while traveling, living, and working beyond the bonds of Earth, space exploration would not be possible.

"Florida in the Space Age" is TBAE's newest history television series, which is all about the cosmic accomplishments developed here in Florida on the Space Coast. This new series is brought to our channel by our partners the Tampa Bay History Center and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Speakers include Grayson KammTodd Halvorson, Rene Arrians, and Bill Ayrey, which all have extensive backgrounds in the space industry when Florida was in it's prime of space exploration.

Grayson Kamm, a former news reporter for 10 News, grew up on the Space Coast and has been covering the space program for over 16 years. And his colleague, Todd Halvorson, is the Kennedy Space Center Bureau Chief for Florida Today Newspaper as well as wrote for USA Today. Together, the two tackle the contemporary history of how Florida came to be home of all space launches in America.

Rene Arrians, a mechanic technician at Intuitive Machines, worked on shuttles at the Kennedy Space Center. Rene provides an inside look to the more technical side of space exploration and all the critical work that goes on before a launch can even occur. Our other speaker, Bill Ayrey, has over 25 years of experience working at the Test Lab at ILC Dover, a Delaware based company that has designed and manufactured spacesuits from the Apollo mission, shuttle program, and current Space Station missions. He explains the importance of a well-developed spacesuit and reveals the formula for suits that are now in a condition that should be preserved for decades to come.

Get suited up for space as we take you on a journey through nearly a century of spacesuit design and developement and exploration!  Tune in Mondays at 8 pm in February on TBAE Network
