Filmmaker Spotlight is an exciting Original TBAE program that showcases the filmmakers and films of selected film artists from the coming year’s Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF).

Artists set the trends and respond to the issues of the day. The goal is to present a dynamic range of films, from animations to documentaries, which speak to our lives now. Twelve films will be selected by a local panel of film educators and artists.  All films must exhibit artistic excellence and topical relevance. Naturally, our bias is to Tampa Bay artists, but our overall criteria is artistic excellence—to bring our Tampa Bay viewers the best of the best.

Our Tampa Bay audiences will be able see these artists talk in-depth about their films. In Tampa Bay, art education is critical for both audiences and artists.  By presenting these up-to-the-moment film, our aspiring filmmakers get to see the trends, and be inspired to greater artistic heights. And because of its high-quality in programming, Filmmaker Spotlight received a 2016 Telly Award in the Cultural Category.
